The Communist Manifesto("Manifesto")is a symbol of the founding of Marxism and is the first great book that comprehensively expounds the principles of scientific socialism. In the history of human thought, there is no such theory as Marxism that has had such a wide and huge impact on the progress of human civilization. In the 45 years since its publication(1848-1893),Marx and Engels wrote seven prefaces for the Manifesto in five languages. This is in itself an interpretive and innovative development of the Manifesto.Their purpose of writing the prefaces was to conform to the changing trends of the capitalist world and further expand the sphere of Marxist theory in the world in order to better use the idea of the Manifesto to guide the new practice of European workers and even the world’s workers’ movement.Studying the prefaces of each edition, and seriously pondering the attitude of the founders of Marxism in regard to their own writings and the Marxist theory they have created helps us correctly answer questions such as "What is Marxism?","How did Marxism develop in the contemporary era?","How to treat Marxism?",which is the scientific Marxist view, and helps us set a glorious example.Marxism is a developing theory. In terms of treating Marxism,we must persist in inheritance, develop in persistence, and innovate in development.Marx and Engels devoted themselves all the time to research on capitalist society and the practice of the proletarian revolutionary movement, and they constantly launched new theoretical explorations of the "Manifesto" idea. They diverted their historical conditions at any time and place, and strictly examined the various assertions made in the Manifesto. In the preface, they consistently adhered to the correct historical materialism, criticized and amended obsolete concrete conclusion to supplement and develop the proletarian revolutionary theory in order to maintain the vigor and vitality of the Manifesto. This fully reflects the rigorous scientific attitude and valuable theoretical innovation of the proletarian revolutionary tutors. The argument that they abandoned the basic principles of the Declaration in later years is totally groundless. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Marx’s birth and the 170th anniversary of the Manifesto,at the great moment when the 19th National Congress of the Party was successfully held,it is necessary for us to carefully study the immortal classics of the Manifesto and its preface in order to stand side by side with pioneers of Communist members,to strengthen our political position of the proletariat and the people and to study the fundamental methods of dialectical materialism and historical materialism. We need to combine theory with practice, seeking truth from facts, advancing with the times and sticking to the lofty communist ideal of Marxism. This requires that on the one hand,we must use scientific attitudes to dig deeper and earnestly to study and actively implement the basic principles and scientific spirit contained in the Manifesto,to criticize the anti-Marxist erroneous ideological trend, and strive to "remain unchanged despite apparent changes".in order to make the Manifesto play the highest value in the contemporary era,On the other hand,It is necessary to take into consideration the new era’s theme of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and realizing the socialist modernization, and elaborate on the Manifesto in light of the new problems and new situations that have arisen under the new situation. The proper supplementation, development, and improvement of the ideas of Marxism can make Marxist theory advance with the times and beyond.
