A Study Of Hobhouse's Liberalism Thoughts

Hobhouse is one of the representatives of the British liberal thinkers in the late 19 th century and early 20 th century.Compared with other liberal thinkers,his thoughts have many unique features.Based on the social realities of the United Kingdom at that time,Hobhouse revised the traditional liberalism,and absorbed some ideas of socialism.Hobhouse broke the absolute freedom advocated by traditional liberalism,and brought liberalism into a new direction and also promoted the development of neo-liberalism.This article analyses Hobhouse's liberalism thoughts mainly around his thoughts of individual freedom,social and state view.The author tries to excavate the deep thoughts behind his theory and analyses the significance of his liberalism thoughts from theoretical and practical aspect.This article is divided into five parts:The first part,briefly introduces the life of Hobhouse and the background of the times,social environment and family environment.According to the social environment and historical background,standing at the time of historical perspective,the author tries to understand and grasp the core content of his thoughts more accurately.In the second part,the author explains Hobhouse's liberalism thoughts and understands the true meaning of freedom through the discussion of the interrelationship among the elements of liberalism,freedom and equality,freedom and restriction.In the third part,the author analyses Hobhouse's liberalism thoughts by deeply thinking the important part of Hobhouse's liberalism thoughts--Hobhouse's social view,and draws the social frame of Hobhouse's liberalism with the help of Hobhouse's social "organic" theory,common good theory and social harmony thought.The forth part,from Hobhouse's state view,analyses the connotation of Hobhouse's liberalism thoughts through the understanding of state function,freedom and state intervention and "liberal socialism",in order to grasp and comprehend the inner meaning of his liberalism.Part Five is a comprehensive thought about Hobhouse's liberalism thoughts.This part makes a further thought and summary of Hobhouse's liberalism through the previous discussion.This article tries to evaluate it from the development and innovation of traditional liberalism and find some uniqueness of Hobhouse's liberalism thoughts and the enlightenment to the development of contemporary society.On the whole,Hobhouse has made great contribution to the development of liberalism,and his thoughts have great significance not only to society at that time,but also to our society today.
