The core of Sandel’s thought of political philosophy is a politics ofcommon good,which contains two important factors, that is,community and citizenship.This dissertation describes the meaning ofSandel’s politics of the common good from both community andcitizenship.Thereinto, communties provide the room for the stand of apolitic of common good; citizenship provides the possibility for it.InSandel’s view, the conception of communities is constitutive andcommunities should guarantee the good of members who belong to it,in the meanwhile, citizen aslo should care the good of communities.Citizenship is the bridge between the individual and the communities.Everyone belongs to certain community, only citizen has qualification ofmembers, they can get the guarantee of the communities. The citizenachieves self-identify and self-value by taking part in the communitylife.The core of Sandel’s political philosophy of common goodemphasizes on the role of morality in the fields of politics, economicsand culture. The common good is not Kant’s pervasive and inevitablegood, nor the the uppermost good of Aristotle, but the common parts inmoral values, which based on the different moral reasons. The politics ofcommon good respects moral doctrines,religional doctrine and othercomprehensive doctrines.The thought of the politic of common good based on the Sandel’sreflection on the pluralism in Western coutries and the profoundunderstanding of Rawls’s political liberalism.Especially,Sandel criticizeson Rawls’s political liberalism all-sides.Sandel comes into a politics of thecommon good based on the criticizes on Rawls.Howerer, both are notobvious different, we would rather consider them mutualcomplementation than oppositon.
