Party Politics In Bangladesh

The People’s Republic of Bangladesh(PRB)is a one of China’s important neighbors on the South Asian subcontinent.Ever since its independence from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the year of 1971,Bangladesh has been struggling to establish itself into a modern society with its abundant natural endowments and advantageous geographical location.However,till this day,the country continues to be one of the world’s most impoverished one battered by overpopulation,poverty,social turmoil and crimes,political instability and low standing in international affairs duo to the failure of its governance.Party politics,the major political leverage in present-day political governance,is held accountable,among other things,for the failure.It is with this point of view that the thesis is framed to look into the historic evolution of the Bangladeshi party politics that has performed its functions and malfunctions throughout the Bangladeshi political maneuvers in seizing power to run the country.The paper,under the guidance of party politics theory,aims to examine the party politics in Bangladesh in deferent periods,to find out the phenomena of the party politics in Bangladesh today,to observe the interactions of its past and present and to prejudge the development tendency of party politics in Bangladesh in the future.Firstly,it uses party-politics theories to analyze the problems;secondly it traces the Bangladeshi political parties in colonized ages and Pakistan times,the formation and development party politics in the sub-continent and in the Bengal area;thirdly it explores into the foundation and deconstruction of Parliamentary Democracy in Bangladesh,led by the military government that appeared in Bangladesh trepeatedly until the beginning of 1990s,and the military government legalizing its identity by way of forming a party of its own to participate in the elections;fourthly it researches into the party politics after the nation rebuilt the Parliamentary Democracy with the Awami League and the Nationalist Party dominating the party politics in the county in rotation;fifthly,it analyzes the party politics tendency in Bangladesh in the future.The thesis concludes that party politics in Bangladesh is doglegged,characterized by family politics,military rule,parliamentarian democracy,multi-party elections,bi-partisan contentions and sometimes violent politics.The Bangladeshi party politics is also influenced by its regional neighbors and global powers.Therefore,in the foreseeable future,the development of party politics in Bangladesh is pessimistically uncertain.
