The Research On Chinese Immigrants In California(1980-Today)

America is a nation of immigrants.In no other country have as many different ethnic groups congregated and amalgamated as they have in America.It is rare for scholars to concentrate on that period of Chinese immigrant history.Usually,the scholars and researchers tend to do researches on the whole Chinese immigrant history.That's where this thesis comes in.This thesis choose California as the research subject because it is the primary destination for Chinese immigrants to settle in.It has been influenced by Chinese immigrants in more than one aspect.To put it in another way,California is the most representative and diverse place in the United States.Doing the researches on the Chinese immigrants in California could provide learners a better vision of Chinese immigrants' true situation,which can also give the learners a more clear understanding about that.This thesis elaborates on the Chinese immigrants(1980-today)from three aspects.Apart from the introduction and conclusion,this thesis is composed of three chapters.Chapter One analyzes the reasons behind the Chinese immigrants to California,which include the push factors and pull factors in China and California.Besides,the global factors are also considered.Chapter Two extracts the characteristics of the Chinese immigrants to California by analyzing their settlement patterns,types,languages and education level.Chapter Three elaborates on the Chinese immigrants' impact on California from three aspects: economy,culture,education.To put it in a nutshell,this thesis finds that the Chinese immigrants to California(1980-today)is different from the previous Chinese immigrants in several aspects.These new Chinese immigrants are compose of skilled immigrants and investment immigrants.They are high-educated,intelligent and so on.Therefore,they spurred the economic growth in California,promoted the education development in California and finally,diversified the culture in California.
