From "Nation" To "Super Nation"

Historically,the nation is the product of artificial structure.Nationality,nationalism and nation-state are not only related to the development process of human civilization,but also related to the survival and development of human beings.On the basis of inheriting the Marxist national theory,the famous western scholar,Eric Hobbes,has avoided the entanglement of the problems such as the concept and the standard of the nation,and focuses on the transformation of the nation and the nationalism and reveals the complexity of the national problem.In addition,Mr.Hobbes analysed globalization and national problems as a whole and finally formed his "Nation and Nationalism".Taking Eric Hobsbaum’s view of nationality as the object of study,this paper describes the relationship between nationality and nationalism,nation-state and ethnic identity from the perspective of history and culture,and analyzes the four stages of the development and transformation of nationalism.This paper focuses on the theory of "supernation",and puts forward the theoretical basis for the demise or reconstruction of nationality and nationalism in order to continue to exist under the background of globalization.Finally,it reflects and evaluates its national theory from the perspective of Marxism.Eric Hobsbaum’s theory of nationality represents an important tendency of modern nationalism,but the diversification of ethnic problems in the world will inevitably challenge his theory.Therefore,absorbing and drawing lessons from its positive and reasonable components,and combining with Marxist view of nationality,has a high reference value for understanding the development and evolution of nationality and nationalism in the world.
