After new China was founded, women`s cause has been developed rapidly, and the status of women has been greatly improved. But the formal equality does not mean the actual equality, because there still exist a number of problems such as the inequality of women`s rights in the aspects of employment, politics and education in the new historical period. The study on Chen Tu-hsiu's thought of women's liberation can provide reference for contemporary women`s liberation in order to understand Chen Tu-hsiu correctly and objectively.Chen Tu-hsiu who grew up in semi-colonial and semi-feudal society was influenced by Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao and bourgeois concept of human rights,he criticized the feudal society`s oppression for women from the institution of marriage, the feudal custom and the social freedom. He advocated for women`s political and educational rights. Then he accepted Marxism outlook of women, his thoughts of women`s liberation transformed. As the early leader of CCP,he pointed the source of the oppression of women and advocated the combination of women`s liberation and socialism. In the course of modernization, his thoughts were improved continuously and play an important role in the process of women's liberation in China.Obviously,His thoughts of women's liberation were not mature. For example,he fully affirmed the French Enlightenment Thought and refuted Chinese traditional ethics thoroughly,he didn`t distinguish the essence and dross of Confucian culture which leads to the cultural dislocation since modern times. However, there was no doubt that he played an important role as the aspect of profoundly exposing persecution that Chinese women suffered in feudal society, trying hard to safeguard women's rights and supporting women to stand on their own feet, etc. His thought had an important leading and guiding role in promoting modernization of the whole Chinese society.
