Research On Ethical Issues Of Militrary Robots

Military robots are an important branch of the development of robots,and the ethics of military robots is also an integral part of robot ethics.It is particularly important because this issue involves war which is the vital political activity and human existence.Various types of military robots have been developing since a long time ago with a long history.Military robots are now divided into different types according to different standards.Divided by the active area are ground military robots,aerial military robots;divided by the drive mode is divided into remote-controlled and autonomous military robots.In the robot ethics perspective,the latter division is more important because it determines the robot's different moral subject status.Compared with traditional military weapons or,military robots have great advantages in terms of usability,durability and cost.For example,they can carry out their duties without soldiers and can reduce the casualties of soldiers as a whole and enhance the efficiency of warfare.These advantages are the reasons for the development of military robots in various countries,but there are also many ethical issues that need to be solved.The problems are: military robots could make killing easier;the threshold of war could be reduced;it is difficult for military robots to distinguish between combatants and noncombatants;it is hard to blame loss caused by military robots;and relationship between states and citizenry can be alienated.The development of military robots must face criticism of these issues and improve these issues.In order to avoid those ethical issues,military robots must follow certain ethical actions.There are two general directions to regulate their behavior.One is to regulate the manufacture and use of robots from the outside by law,and the other is to use internal programming to make the robot comply with the rules spontaneously.The internal method has three approaches,top-down,bottom-up and hybrid approach Methods.As to what constitutes the norm of the robot,detailed rules should be refined under a large ethical framework.
