Research On Affirmative Action In American Higher Education

On September 24,1965,US President Johnson formally announced the implementation of affirmative action plan.For more than 50 years,while affirmative action has helped solve America's racial problems,the debate over its applicability has never stopped.The debate over the need for affirmative action has reached a fever pitch in 2018.The main target of affirmative action is vulnerable groups such as black people and women.Black groups and women's organizations become the supporters of affirmative action,and they strive for the long-term implementation of affirmative action plan.But the affirmative action plan was fiercely opposed by white American men,and even by a handful of black groups.Today,the discussion of affirmative action has risen to the political side,thus divided into two factions,namely,liberalism and conservatism,the striking position of direct impact on the stability of modern American society,and both sides of the debate also makes affirmative action in the presidential campaign one of the main aspects.This paper takes the implementation of affirmative action plan of the United States as the background,objectively analyzes the reasons,effects and current disputes of the implementation of affirmative action plan of the United States government,and preliminarily discusses the future prospect of affirmative action of the United States.The direct purpose of affirmative action plan is to alleviate the great harm caused by historical racial discrimination,so as to restore and improve the overall status of black people in American society.Although the American law stipulates that black people and white people enjoy equal rights,such as the mandatory protection of black people's legal rights in the civil rights law,the legal provisions are undoubtedly only written,while affirmative action plan is a highly practical and operational activity,which effectively safeguards black people's rights.Since affirmative action began,large Numbers of blacks have gone on to higher education under the program.Taken as a whole,affirmative action programs have done a great deal to alleviate the legacy of racial discrimination and improve their access to higher education.Although the affirmative action of the United States has been controversial from the very beginning,all parties have different opinions on the affirmative action,and its implementation is restricted by all parties.However,after more than half a century of implementation,it has not only played a significant role in minority higher education in the United States,but also played a positive role in promoting the development of higher education in the whole American society.No other policy can replace it.By studying the affirmative action of the United States,we aim to constantly improve the higher education policy of China's ethnic minorities by comparing it with China's preferential education policies for ethnic minorities,selecting the essence and discarding the dross.
