The American affirmative action is mainly aimed at giving preferential treatment to ethnic minorities in the field of education and employment. This policy implementation of more than half a century, has gone through three stages:the embryonic stage of the 1940s to the early 1960s,the development of the early 1960s to the early 1980s,and the recession of the early 1980s to the present.Especially after entering the 21st century, the question of the fate of affirmative action is more controversial.Proponents of affirmative action argue that ethnic minorities remain disadvantaged in the 21st century and are still subjected to racial discrimination in all respects, while white people still dominate in American society.Minority groups believe that their proportion in the field of education and employment is still low. So,in the 21st century, these ethnic minorities are eager to affirmative action to give them access to higher education and increased employment. But affirmative action opponents argue that the living condition of ethnic minorities have been greatly improved in the21st century. And they are no longer vulnerable groups that have been treated unfairly by slavery and so on.They also believe that all ethnic groups are already in a fair competitive environment nowadays. In addition, especially white people, think that affirmative action caused“reverse discrimination”to them and affirmative action has made white people become discriminatory groups. Therefore, opponents of the policy argue that there should be no affirmative action to continue to compensate and treat these minorities. So it can be seen that the situation of affirmative action in the 21stt century is no optimistic. Therefore, the implementation of affirmative action in the 21st century is the main content of this study. In addition, the impact of the implementation of affirmative action in the 21st century on ethnic minorities, that is,the attitude of ethnic minorities to affirmative action is the focus of this study.
