Literary inquisition has a long history in China,it has different forms and characteristics at various times.Literary Inquisition in Ming Dynasty,as a supplementary means to restrain speech and thought control at that time,was the product of the new peak of autocratic centralization in China.This paper takes Literary Inquisition in Ming Dynasty as the research object,and sorts out its evolution process,characteristics of the times and historical influence,which are beneficial to make up for the gap of the academic research on Literary Inquisition in some extent.It is helpful to understand the development status of politics,economy and culture in Ming Dynasty,and further to think deeply about the influence of ideological control on various aspects of social development.In addition,this paper focuses on studying Literary Inquisition in Ming Dynasty under the perspective of absolute monarchy,which is trying to explore on its regularity,and then thinking about the chain relationship between despotism and Literary Inquisition.Firstly,this paper analyzes Literary Inquisition in Ming Dynasty from the perspective of absolute monarchy.Its essential theme is defined as a tool for the rulers of Ming Dynasty to exercise ideological control over the masses,and studies the specific background of the generation and development of Literary Inquisition in Ming Dynasty.Secondly,through using historical research method and case study as well as sorting out and analyzing relevant documents,which can systematically showing the development track of Literary Inquisition in Ming Dynasty,and dividing it into four different periods: peak period,downturn period,rebound period and recession period.On this basis,this paper also uses comparative research method to analyze the historical characteristics of Literary Inquisition in Ming Dynasty from vertical perspective.It believes that it is more clearly influenced by the emperor's subjectivity under the background of absolute monarchy,and its intention is more diversified,what's more,its punishment is even more severe than that of previous dynasties.Finally,this paper concretely analyze the historical impact of the Ming dynasty literary inquisition,deeming that the literary inquisition played a negative role in the progress of ideology and culture and the construction of social ethos in the Ming dynasty.
