The ethnic relations in a country affect the stability and development of the country. As a multi-ethnic country,Malaysia is faced with complex ethnic problems.Malay and non-malay ethnic groups in the economic, political, social and other aspects of the unequal status highlighted. In 1969,the "May 13" ethnic violence occurred.Malaysia has the third-largest Indian immigrant population, but the Malaysian Indians,in every category, are disadvantaged. The suppression of Malay-dominated government policies, coupled with the religious persecution of Hindus by Muslims since the rise of the Islamic Revival Movement in the 1970 s,has led to conflicts in the relations between the Indian and Malay ethnic groups. This paper observes the interaction of the Malay and Indian ethnic groups in different periods from the economic, political and social levels, and analyzes the relationship between the two ethnic groups. In colonial times, influenced by the "Divide and rule" policies of the British colonial government, the vast majority of Indians who gathered on the plantations had little contact with the Malays in the economic sphere, only a very small number of Indian businessmen have had business relations with the Malays. In the political sphere,Malays and Indians do not agree on political identity. In the social sphere, the caste system of Hindus insulates them from the Muslim society in which they live, and there is no obvious interaction or connection between the two groups. After the independence of Malaysia and before the May 13 incident,in the economic field, the Malay-dominated government carried out economic policies in favor of its own ethnic group, and the economic interests of the Indians were not guaranteed. In the political sphere, the political parties that represent the interests of Indians are increasingly marginalized. In the social sphere, the Tamil script education of Indians is further in decline and in difficulty. After May13,in economy, the Malay government pursued a more moderate economic policy. In politics,"one party rule" was gradually replaced by a "two-line" political party system.New political powers such as HINDRAF,which represent Indians, have emerged and ethnic equality has developed further. In the social sphere, with the rise of the Islamic Revival Movement,Hindus were facing religious persecution by Muslims and violentclashes had occurred between the two groups. The conflict between the Indian and Malay communities in Malaysia does not currently appear to be a sufficient threat to the security of the country as a whole. However,if the rights and interests of the Indian community as a vulnerable group are not further protected,it will certainly affect a country's internal ethnic relations and even the country's long-term stability.
