Sport Moral Disengagement And College Athletes' Aggressive Behavior

Based on Bandura's social cognitive theory,scientists had done a lot of researches to explore the relationship between moral disengagement and unethical behavior.A lot of results show that the moral disengagement is a predictor of individual's unethical behavior(aggression,antisocial behavior,drug abuse,crime,child and adolescent bullying behavior,etc.);Individual moral disengagement level is higher,the more unethical behavior.In recent years,researchers begin to pay close attention to moral disengagement predict the aggressive behavior in different situations.Considering the context indeed provides a more comprehensive perspective for understanding the unethical behaviors.Athletes due to its competitive characteristics and used more moral disengagement mechanism in sport environment compared to used in everyday life.Based on the social cognitive theory,through three studies to explore sport moral disengagement in different moral pressure situation impacts specific attacks,tried to make more comprehensive interpretation of aggression happened in the field of sport.In the first study,taking the Boardley's sport moral disengagement measure as the basis,a questionnaire was developed for athletes in our culture.The results supported the model that best fitted the data had 8 first-order factors that could be represented by 1 second-order factor.The second study used hierarchical regression method to explore the moderating role of moral identity between moral disengagement in sport and college athletes,aggression.The results showed that moral identity played the moderating role between moral disengagement in sport and college athletes,aggression.For the more,we examined whether dispositional moral disengagement is associated with a specific act of laboratory-based aggression.We created three different situational pressures: in the high situational pressures,we created a good interaction without causing the vengeful mind.Thus,athletes' pressure greatly increased to do unethical behavior;In the medium situational pressures,we primed athletes' vengeful mind through gave low scores to them by virtual partner;In the low situational pressure,we not only primed athletes' vengeful mind but also hide them into the collective.Results show that under different situation,sports moral disengagement take prediction differently.It only takes prediction for aggression only in the low pressure situation and medium pressure situation,not in high pressure situation.On this basis,this study the following conclusion:(1)Chinese version of sport moral disengagement questionnaire is suitable for our country athletes,the questionnaire is 8 first-order factors that could be represented by 1 second-order factor.(2)Moral identity played the moderating role between moral disengagement in sport and college athletes,aggression;(3)Moral pressure situation moderate the relationship between dispositional moral disengagement and aggressive behaviors of athletes.
