A Study Of The Relation Between Moral Disengagement And Pro-Anti Social Behavior In Sport

Moral Disengagement in sport is one of the psychological mechanisms that interpret athletes’ immoral conduct,and by eight mechanism related(moral justification、 advantageous comparison、euphemistic labeling、displacement and diffusion of responsibility、distortion of consequences、ehumanization and attribution of blame)can invalidate the moral self-regulatory function.Meanwhile moral disengagement in sport,can predict the pro-anti social behaviour in sport.This paper will focus on the relation between moral disengagement and pro-social and antisocial behavior(toward teammates and opponents respectively).In this study, based on our cultural background as the research object, athletes investigated the relationship between moral disengagement dimension and pro-anti social behavior (opponents and teammates).First of foreign moral disengagement Scale (MDSS)adaptive testing,results show that the foreign MDSS scale better surveying properties, when applied to our athletes, the reliability and validity not ideal.Therefore,based on the foreign MDSS scale,self-made the Chinese version of moral disengagement Scale.The self-made scale, after two rounds of exploratory factor analysis and AMOS confirmatory factor analysis, the the defining factor number premise final sample of five factors, the cumulative amount of variance explained41.804%. Ultimately, The self-made scale consists of a total of20projects of the five dimensions constitute dimension name and the number of items:the moral justification of six projects, advantageous comparison of five projects,dehumanization of three projects,euphemistic labeling three projects,three displacement of responsibility projects. Internal consistency reliability and construct validity showed that the self-made scale has good features, can measure moral disengagement in sport.An Investigation of the relationship between revised "pro-antisocial behavior scale in sports" and self-made scale. Conclusions are as follows:First,multivariate analysis of variance(MANOVA)results indicate that the differences of gender(male/female)only moral disengagement individual dimensions (moral justification and advantageous comparison).Type of project (collective project/personal items) and exercise level(master grade/one/two) do not exist in all dimensions of moral disengagement differences; gender and type of project, exercise level, project type, gender and exercise level the project type interaction, are reflected in moral justification dimension of moral disengagement in sport.Second, Pearson correlation analysis showed that moral justification, euphemistic label, and the displacement of responsibility and the movement of pro-social behavior (teammate) into a significantly negative correlation, moral justification, advantageous comparison and the displacement of responsibility movement pro-social behavior (opponents)negative correlation; moral justification, advantageous comparison, dehumanizing and euphemistic label with the movement of anti-social behavior (opponents and teammates) into a significantly positive correlationThirdly, hierarchical regression results show that demographic variables failed campaign pro-social behavior (opponents and teammates) to make reliable predictions, but it can positively predict the anti-social behavior (opponents and teammates). Which project type variables best predicted of the anti-social behavior (opponents and teammates); displacement of responsibility to become negative predictor sports pro-social behavior (opponents and teammates) variable. The conclusions of this study as follows:Firstly，Moral Disengagement in sport contains five dimensions：Moral Justification, Advantageous Comparison,Dehumanization,Euphemistic Labeling, Displacement of Responsibility.Secondly, the relation between moral disengagement and pro-social behaviors (opponents and teammates) into a significantly negative correlation, a significant positive correlation with the movement of anti-social behavior (opponents and teammates).Thirdly, the demographic variables only positive to predict the of anti-social behavior (opponents and teammates)and can not predict the pro-social behavior (opponents and teammates).Become the predicted antisocial behavior (opponents and teammates) variables which positively predict, project type; displacement of responsibility could negative predict the pro-social behavior (opponents and teammates) variable.
