Geography is a comprehensive discipline includes various branches,such as physical,human,and technology.It is now widely used as an indispensable knowledge in real life.There is plenty of geographical research studies have been done by geographers across the world.Within these studies,oceanography is a fast-growing topic,which has become a measurable index of comprehensive national power.Therefore,learning and mastering oceanographic knowledge is necessary for students in the 21st Century.However,effected by traditional awareness of "Studying mainland is more important than ocean",people are still lack of oceanic knowledge.So do high school students.In this paper,current high-school teaching situation of oceanographic knowledge has been learnt through questionnaires,interview,and literatures.Also through statistic analysis,this paper points out the problems and causes during current teaching processes.The results indicate that,1)Teachers usually adopt traditional teaching methods to pass on oceanographic knowledge.Interactive classroom activities and extensions,to a large degree,are still missing;2)As for the students,they are lack of learning interests and motivations.Besides,without appropriate learning methods,their study efficiency is low.Based on these findings,this article proposes different effective methods toward teaching oceanographic knowledge(PEP edition)in high-school geography class,according to middle-school curriculum standards and related educational theories.Methods include adopting geographic diagrams into class,creating situation,conducting investigative studies,implementing case study,which all reflect educational concepts of New Curriculum Standard.These teaching methods is good for developing students'geographic competency and skills,as well as providing practical references for other teachers.
