The Study Of The Application Effect Of The Hawk-Eye Technology In 2016–2017 Chinese Volleyball League Match

The hawk-eye challenge system is known for its precise judgement and accurate measurement,and has served various kinds of sports matches since it has been invented.The 2016 – 2017 Chinese Volleyball League Match has employed the hawk-eye system developed by China.This study aims at doing statistical analysis on the usage of hawk-eye system during the 2016 – 2017 Chinese Volleyball League Match by literature review,video observation and mathematical statistics to help the audience to have a clearer and thorough understanding on Chinese hawk-eye system.The study also analyses the bottleneck point of the first time's usage of hawk-eye system and the value the system brings to the league match combining with the development of the Chinese Volleyball League Match through logical analysis,which provides theoretical evidence for the future usage and development of hawk-eye system in the Chinese Volleyball League Match.The study concludes following results based on the analysis and discussion:1.The average time of the hawk-eye challenge in this year's Chinese Volleyball League Match is longer than the time of a technical time-out.The time of the challenges at the lines of the court is short,and the time of the challenges at the net is long.The distribution of the time slot is different for different home fields.2.The most frequent challenge of the hawk-eye system in this year's Chinese Volleyball League Match is judging the ball is in-bound or not,while the less frequent one is judging whether the ball has touched the sign post.The success rate of hawk-eye challenge will not be affected by the frequency or the difference of the subjects of the challenge.3.The success rate of the hawk-eye challenge in 2016 – 2017 Chinese Volleyball League Match basically equals to the whole success rate when the gap between the points of two sides is 0,1,or 2,but the rate will reach to almost 50% when the point gap is 3 or 4 points.Averagely there will propose a challenge every 10 game points or match points in the total 676 game points.4.The hawk-eye system helps the field judge to be the “third-party judge”.There is a direct relationship between the coach's choice of the challenge subject and the purpose when a coach asks for a hawk-eye challenge.The main purpose would be to pause the game,calm down the athlete,and challenge judge's decision when the gap between the points is obvious.5.The hawk-eye challenge system used in this year's match has problems including low quality of the video replay and divergence of the time spent on challenges for different games.The overall time for challenges is too long,and not every subject can be challenged by this system.The system also fails to catch the violation of the rules happens at further distance.What's more,some judges are not familiar with the usage of the challenge system,and the coaches still need to adapt to the usage of this system.This study has proposed following suggestions:1.We should improve the profession skills and abilities of the judges and emphasizing the training for them to make them familiar with the workflow of hawk-eye challenge system.We could invite both foreign and domestic elite judges and encourage the communication between them in order to improve the judgement quality and decrease the conflicts in games.2.We should let the hawk-eye judge have a greater say to guarantee the challenge operated normally and smoothly.The hawk-eye judge should have the final say on whether the challenge is successful or not.In this way,the hawk-eye system and human eyes could regulate each other and benefit the games.3.We should broaden the horizon of the system.There should be a monitoring system for athletes at a further distance.By enabling the hawk-eye challenge for them,there will be less dispute on the game.4.The operation workflow of the hawk-eye system should be simplified to standardize the proposition of the hawk-eye challenge and make the operation easier for judges.Thus,the time spent on challenges could be reduced to improve the consistency of the games,which will relieve the audience from the weariness of watching.5.We should establish a big data system for Chinese volleyball hawk-eye databy transforming the volleyball matches data lively and recording the data to form a data base.The data could be used in future study,communication,training,matches and researches.
