Research On The Impact Of Developmental Social Work Intervention On The Positive Youth Development Of Dibao Families And Adolescents

The youth should be seen as person with great development potential rather than “problems to be managed”,it suggests us to combine the family,school and community to provide developmental intervention for the youth to promote the positive outcomes and prevent the risk behaviors.Youth development requires rich assets,while the youth living in low-income family have limited development assets and might easily get trapped into a development dilemma.As the view of positive youth development emerging,it enlights youth social workers shift to the PYD view and focus on the inner development trajectory of youth development,thus we should provide the youth with more positive intervention strategies to facilitate healthy youth outcomes under the direction of PYD.The mentoring program,along with adventure counseling,has been proved by researchers and practioners,to be effective intervention strategies in promoting positive youth development during the past decades.We've conducted the program evaluation and achieved the following three conclusions,(1)youth participated in the joint intervention activities have been linked to significant improvements in youth's perceptions of their relationships with parents,as well as healthy socialemotional characteristics.(2)through the evaluation of the joint intervention program,we've calculated the effect size and concluded that the joint program had a small to large effectiveness(the effect size ranges from 0.18 to 0.88),which means that the intervention activities did promote positive youth development effectively.(3)the quality research part had further explained the positive outcomes of the joint intervention program does to the youth.The findings have examined that the mentoring and adventure-based counseling could promote positive youth development,based on the evaluation research we propose that the youth social workers and practioners should be concerned about the social context of the youth and adopt effective intervention strategies to promote positive outcomes.
