The State And The Society In The Construction Of Features

As a new attempt of China's new-style urbanization,the characteristic town was in full swing nationwide.In policy,the construction of the characteristic town asks for suiting measures to local conditions,standing out the local features and making characteristic industries.This paper researches the feature-building in a concrete characteristic town by bibliographical research,participant observation and interview method,taking the ongoing H characteristic town(the characters of Manchu)as a case study.There are two official features in this Manchu characteristic town: one is leaded by cadres of the village committee;the other one is leaded by technology elites of an urban planning institute.These two official features have some differences in constructing logic.They,however,all tend to make official features into something that is nothing to do with the characteristic town in this moment or something that is timeless.Beyond official features,there are folk characters on display and features in daily-life in the Manchu characteristic town.Local Manchu villagers consider themselves as having no difference with other Han villagers.Therefore the folk characters on display,which are constructed by the Manchu villagers,stand out the features of village instead of Manchu.The official features are failed in integrating into the features of daily-life.There is a gap between official features and folk features.The Shaman Dance is one of the most representative features in the Manchu characteristic town.Compare to the Shaman Dance in history and in daily-life,the Shaman Dance,which is displayed by the authority,has been reconstructed and lost parts of its local features.However,neither the construction of the Manchu characteristic town,nor the official display is the reason why the Shaman Dance loses its local features.The Social engineering is not inevitably linked to the homogenization.Local features of the characteristic town must come from villagers' daily life at this moment.Features on display should also be features in life.
