A Study On The Loneliness Of The Disabled Elderly By Support Group's Intervening Act

The loneliness of senior citizens have been increased gradually with age.Due to the serious physical restriction,the psychological problems of the disabled elderly are often more serious,with a intensive spiritual demand remaining.It is particularly difficult for welfare homes to take care of the elderly,which asks for the urgent need of social attention and professional services involved.Based on both social support theory and group dynamics theory,the author intends to carry out the support group of social work service program,designing for the service of cherishing the memory of the members sharing the common memory.With the formation of social support and cohesive force,each team member will make mutual understanding and be familiar with each other in the process of participating in this group,which will result in reducing the inner loneliness of the elderly.This paper indicates that three conclusions can be shown by analyzing the process of the intervention and activities in this group.Firstly,there is a must for the disable elderly to buiding up informal support for each other in order to relieve the inner loneliness;Secondly,the method for memorizing the common memories have an positive effect on the disabled elderly,increasing their interests and enthusiasm of participation to bettering the development of the group;Thirdly,a great relevance exists between the atmosphere of the activities the elderly group taking and the acceptance and trust for social workers the members showing.Two experimental results are shown based on practical reflections and discussions:On one hand,according to the physical fitness of the disabled elderly and matching for the contents and objectives of social work service,the lack of matching between the two not only affect the achievement of the goal,but also result in a sense of frustration throughout the activities.On the other hand,according to the appropriate thinking of the activities for the disabled elderly,although activities does good to releasing inner loneliness,the accomplishment of the aim of the group activities may be affected by the disabled elderly's physical conditions.
