Comparing with the traditional teachers,the ethical role of contemporary teachers are faced with the modernistic crisis and challenge.Aside from the element of contingency and characteristic,teachers' condition with regard to absent morality is the root of constituting the moral crisis of teachers in the education nowadays.The influential factors are utilitarianism,hedonism,individualism and marketing.Another condition is the lack of humanity that non-reflection and inaction of mentality,such as conformity and obedience.It is the characteristic that ‘the banality of evil' is able to occur in the individual life of each teacher,and has generality and dispersion.‘The banality of evil' refers to the teachers' negative action of representative evil and the non-thought of tolerable evil.Different from the labor and work in the original sense,the individual action of teachers should be formed through the mutual promotion of the meaning of responsibility,the power of judgment and the effect of thinking.The purpose of action is to realize own value and meaning.As the subject of ‘the banality of evil',teachers do not possess or have lost their moral ability,but hide or even escape the relationship of dialogue between subject and self morality,forming a moral fallacy that knowing good but hard to be good.This moral fallacy is mainly manifested in three aspects: the absence of responsibility,the shelving of judgment and the retreat of thought.First of all,it is the responsibility that an asymmetric and non-reciprocal relationship between teachers and students.Not only do teachers in the state of ‘the banality of evil' shift the responsibility under the shelter of authority and collectivity,but also hide the subjectivity of responsibility in the passive role.This situation has led to the vacancy of responsibility.Secondly,the teachers' life are full of judgments about the various relationships."I" under the specific situation is different from it above the abstract meaning.When facing to the judgment in the dilemma of authority and individual,utilitarian and moral,discipline and freedom,teachers' behaviors behind hide a mediocrity caused by the situational power and systematic power.This evil mediocrity has gradually corroded the depersonalisation and deindividualization of teachers,and caused the Shelving of judgment.Finally,teachers' action should be based on thinking rather than place oneself above the thinking.Individual thoughts of the educational value and meaning are limited to the aspect of narrow technique and the method of habitual regulation.The separation of action and thought has caused teachers to lose their direction for educational purposes.These two aspects constitute the root of ‘the banality of evil'.The essence of teachers' ‘banality of evil' is difficult to control or evade by behavioral standard.To resist and surpass teachers' ‘banality of evil',we should take the sense of individual power in a great extent.There are three parts to break teachers' ‘banality of evil': pursuing the individual freedom of will positively,attaching importance to the original implication of education and constructing the meaning world of the subjectivity above identity.
