A Study Of Intercultural Adaptation Of International Students At Ningxia University

With the further development of globalization,the influence of China has been enhancing.And influenced by China's "The Belt and Road" policy,the number of international students studying in China is increasing.As an important point along the route,Ningxia has also attracted international students to live and study here.Under this context,intercultural adaptation of international students is an important issue.And whether international students can adapt to the host culture and how to decide to adapt to the host culture are worth studying.Based on Coleen Ward and Antony Kennedy's theory of intercultural adaptation and John Berry's acculturation strategy,this paper attempts to study the intercultural adaptation situation of international students at Ningxia University.And this paper also attempts to analyze possible reasons and provide suggestions for the situation.Based on the previous scholars' intercultural adaptation theory and acculturation strategy,160 international students from Ningxia University are investigated through questionnaires.The investigation covers the psychological adaptation situation,sociocultural adaptation situation and academic adaptation situation of international students.The investigation also copes with international students' choice of acculturation strategy.Through the analysis of 102 valid questionnaires,the results are as follows:international students at Ningxia University are mild depressed in psychological adaptation,are moderate depressed in sociocultural adaptation and academic adaptation.And the most preferred strategy among international students is integration strategy.There are two reasons for this situation.First,the host culture is different from the native culture.Second,individual knowledge and ability are different.In this case,the author tries to provide relevant suggestions to improve the situation:First,the government should renew its attitudes to international students' education,develop laws,regulations and information channels.Second,the university should improve international students' management model and found academic support system.Third,Chinese students should change attitudes to international students,communicate with foreign students actively and strive to create multicultural associations.
