In recent years,the State Council and the Ministry of Education have successively issued documents to support faculty development policies.However,the problems of faculty development in our colleges and universities still need to be resolved.The obvious organizational setup,lack of targeted teacher training,neglect of the importance of teaching,and the phenomenon of neglecting teaching are important issues and problems facing our universities.In view of this,the case study method and policy text analysis method are used to systematically explore faculty development of liberal arts colleges from aspects of teaching development and research development.From organizational aspect,the organizational modes of liberal arts colleges are consisted of development components of other academic programs and multi-campus cooperative program.From practical aspect,liberal arts colleges provide varieties of activities to improve teachers' teaching ability.From research aspect,liberal arts colleges provide financial support and sabbatical leave support to improve teachers'teaching ability.By learning from the practical experience of faculty development of American liberal arts colleges,Chinese universities should strive to improve the teaching development organization and build an effective mechanism for teachers;give high priority to the teaching of colleges and universities,improve the teachers' teaching quality.
