Calculus is an important teaching content of high school mathematics. In our country, the arrangement of calculus content in high school has suffered some setbacks. In contrast, the calculus content in Japanese high school has existed since the Second World War and has been continuously improved, which has accumulated rich compilation experience. Therefore, comparing the calculus content of Chinese and Japanese high school mathematics textbooks not only helps Chinese textbook users to explore their unique advantages, but also helps Chinese textbook writers to learn more from others. In this study,we selected the high school mathematics textbook published by the People's Education Publishing House(B version, option 2-2)and the high school mathematics textbook(mathematics II and mathematics III)published by shinko-keirin,and used the literature method, comparative method, qualitative and quantitative method to explore the similarities and differences between the calculus parts of the textbooks. We first compared the curriculum standards of the whole high school mathematics curriculum and the curriculum standards of the calculus in specific. Then,we compared the similarities and differences between the chapter setting and column setting of the textbooks. And then,we compared the core concepts in textbooks; Finally,we analyzed the difficulty differences between the examples and exercises in the textbooks. This study has the following conclusions:(1)In terms of curriculum standards, the characteristics of “The Essentials” are expressed in the emphasis on mathematical independent activities, while “the Standards” are expressed in emphasizing the value of mathematical culture and the mathematical rational spirit. At the level of calculus requirements,“The Essentials” deepens the study of the depth and breadth of calculus, such as adding a lot of definite points.“The Standards” strengthen the understanding of the requirements of calculus in real life applications.(2)In terms of content setting, the textbooks are different for the learning of the derivative function, and Japanese version requires mastering the content of the points. In the column setting, the textbook of Chinese version is not only set up with “thinking and discussion” and “practice on the computer” to deepen students' theoretical thinking and information application ability, and combs the chapter's knowledge network in "this chapter".In contrast, the Japanese version attempts to connect students with theoretical knowledge.(3)In terms of the core concept, the textbook of Chinese version introduces more familiar examples such as life or other disciplines as a bridge to understand new concepts when introducing the concept of derivative and integral points, which is not seen in Japanese version. However,in the textbook of Mathematics III of Japanese version, the study of the limit knowledge was added before the learning of the calculus content, which could enhance the knowledge reserve of the students learning the calculus content.(4)In terms of examples and exercises,on the whole, the biggest difference between the textbooks of two countries is that Chinese version pays more attention to the setting of the difficulty of the background of the topic, while Japanese version pays more attention to the Computational difficulty. On the basis of the above conclusions, this study believes that the preparation of the calculus content of high school mathematics textbooks in China can be based on the premise of maintaining its own advantages, drawing on other textbooks, thus forming a more reasonable textbook writing idea.
