With the rapid development of economy,price of commodities and labor costs have been experiencing a continuous rise.To maintain the educational attribute of college student canteens,domestic colleges and universities take the “stabilize the food prices in student canteens despite the rising prices of raw materials” approach.However,this approach has resulted in severe cost management and cost control challenges for college catering service industry.In order to improve the anti-risk capability of colleges and universities,to stabilize food prices for college students and teachers,to better contribute to the stability,development,teaching and researches of colleges and universities and to provide more convenience for college students and teachers' daily life,realizing the economic and social benefits as well as scientific and effective cost control is the key to the healthy,stable and sustainable development of college catering service industry.This thesis intends to analyze the key issues of college canteen cost management and cost control from the perspective of social responsibility,to seek for possible methods for lowering the catering costs,for stabilizing food prices,and for improving food quality and service quality,and to further establish long-term mechanism for cost control of college canteens,aiming to provide case references for college canteen cost control.This thesis,adopting such research methods as literature review method,method of comparative analysis and case study method,intends to conduct an in-depth analysis of the cost control practices of the student canteens of X University basing on the relevant materials provided by the Catering Service Center of X University,to summarize the successful practices of canteen cost control of X University,to present existing problems of canteen cost control in X University,and to further come up with specific solutions accordingly.This thesis firstly elaborates the research background,research aims,research contents and research methods of college canteen cost control;this thesis then analyzes the current status of such aspects of college canteen cost control as the social responsibility of universities,canteen characteristics,cost structures,cost control features,factors thatinfluence the costs of college canteen,problems of cost control and the effects of university social responsibility on cost control,on the basis of the literature review of such issues as social responsibility,cost control,social responsibility and cost control of college canteens.Then a case study of X University's canteen cost control follows: this thesis briefly sums up the basic structure,staff composition,costs and expenditures as well as benefit evaluation methods of X University,presents existing problems of canteen cost control in X University as well as the methods taken by X university to fulfill social responsibility,and puts forward specific methods aiming at the entire personnel for comprehensive cost control during the whole process accordingly.This thesis also comes up with strategic suggestions for college canteen cost control for colleges and universities in China,on the basis of literature review and case study.
