Research purposes: to summarize the technical and tactical characteristics of Nadal in the process of holding the ball in the French Open and propose a more optimized competition strategy and find out the advantaged technical and tactical styles in holding the ball in the French Open. The methods as literature review, video observation, mathematical statistics, video analysis and logic analysis are employed in this paper to analyze the technical indicators of the first shot, the second shot and the stalemate phase among the 315 holding balls of Nadal in the seven rounds of 2018 French Open. The evaluation of technical parameters mainly includes the conditions, status, and effects of technical application. The main statistical indicators are technical use categories, placement, lines, spin and speed(speed of serve, receive, the second shot back, the returning speed of the phase, the speed of the opponent's save). In the process of speed statistics, the relevant video of the serve, the receive, the second beat, and the phase of the match are processed in some software to calculate the relevant speed of serve, receive, the return speed of the second ball and the returning speed at stalemate stage, and the speed of the opponent's save. And this paper mainly employs the single factor analysis of variance and chi-square test to examine the differences the relevant technique parameters.Research results: 1 In the application of technical categories,Nadal prefers the forehand and backhand technology to other technologies, and the forehand side attack technology is mainly concentrated in his second beat, slice technology is mainly used in the stalemate phase.2About the return line,Nadal prefers the crosscourt shot most, then the down the line shot, and the backslash shot the least in the first shot(receiving),the second shot and at the stalemate phase.3 About the placement,Nadal's placement on the first beat(receiving)prefers the left and right field to the middle field, and there is little difference between the left field and the right field. In the second shot and at the stalemate stage, the placement is on the left and right field, far higher than the middle field and the left field is slightly higher than the right field.4 In terms of speed,Nadal's overall speed in the first and second shot(the serve speed)is relatively stable. In the comparison of the return speed of the first shot(receiving),the second beat, and the return speed at stalemate stage, the fastest speed is at stalemate stage, the second one is at the second shot, and the first beat is the slowest.Of the average speeds, the speed at the stalemate stage isthe fastest, the first beat is the second, and the second beat is the slowest, but the difference among the three is small. In the analysis of the opponent's save speed, the maximum save speed and the average save speed are relatively stable.5 Nadal takes the baseline forehand and backhand shot, coupled with the oblique line shot, placement mobilization between the left and right field and a relatively steady speed as the main strategies in the technique of holding the ball. Conclusion: Nadal enjoys a stable speed in the first shot(serve),variable placements and rotations to suppress the weak side of his opponent. In the process of the first shot(receiving),he mainly takes the forehand and backhand shot. The placements of his shots are usually on the left field and the right field. The middle field is rarely used.In the second shots,he tends to use the forehand instead of the backhand, and the placement is at the left hand, and the diagonal line is the main line.At the stalemate phase,he mainly takes the forehand and backhand shot, slash and straight shot, and placement is either the left or the right and the placement is closer to the sideline. The return speed and the opponent's save speed are more steady during the entire process of holding balls.
