In recent years, with the popularity of marathon,China has set off a boom in holding marathon events. However, the problems existing in marathon events in China have gradually become prominent especially the low degree of internationalization.Taking Hangzhou marathon as an example, this study focuses on the cross-cultural differences in Hangzhou Marathon from the perspective of value orientation, and proposes targeted strategies to improve the internationalization level of the event.Based on Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck's values orientation theory, this study uses the literature analysis method to determine the questionnaire and interview outline of marathon related value orientation. The research received 204 valid questionnaires,137 from domestic participants,31 from western countries' participants and 36 from other eastern countries, participants.A total of 15 participants were interviewed, including 5 domestic participants,7 participants from western countries and 3 other eastern countries' participants. On this basis,we concludes the value orientations of different cultural system.Through SPSS statistical software and one-way anova, the value orientations of the participants were compared, and the differences in value orientations were obtained. In addition, the open questions of interviews and questionnaires were combined to propose strategies to deal with the differences.Research conclusion:(1)Through the analysis of the value orientations of the participants at home and abroad, the "human evil" orientation under the dimension of human value is not applicable, and it is more consistent with the research results to modify it as "human variable".(2)The value orientations of participants in Hangzhou Marathon differ from those in western countries in their views on human nature, the relationship between nature and human, activity orientation and time orientation; There are differences between domestic participants and other western participants in their views on human nature and activity orientation.Participants from western countries and other eastern participants have different views on the relationship between nature and human, the relationship between themselves and others, and the orientation of activities.(3)There are various ways to deal with cross-cultural differences. For differences that have a direct impact on the marathon, especially those with a negative impact,it is necessary to find fast and efficient coping strategies, integrate cultures as much as possible, and reduce or eliminate differences.Differences that do not have a direct impact on the marathon may allow them to exist, but are monitored on a regular basis. In addition, the coping strategies for cross-cultural differences must be targeted,so as to improve the overall international level of the event.
