With the change of the Internet era,the rise of new media, and the introduction of new social APP products, social media has entered people's lives and has become an integral part of it.In new media environment, college students are increasingly dependent on social media.Based on the Media Dependency Theory and Use and Satisfaction Theory, this paper takes 322 college students in Shanghai as the research object to study the status quo of social media use and dependence of college students and its impact on college students' actual social interaction,in order to explore the relationship between real-life social interaction and online social interaction of college students in Shanghai. The research results may be used to guide the reduction of the negative effects of excessive use of social media. The research results show that the most used social media by Shanghai college students is communication social media(WeChat,QQ),and the second place is taken by lifestyle social media. Most Shanghai university students use social media for 2-6hours per day, with an average time of 4 hours, and Shanghai university students spend more time on communication social media every day.The main purpose of students to use social media is to entertain and relax,to collect and obtain information and to socialize. When college students in Shanghai use social media to meet their social needs, they are more inclined to meet their communication needs in study or work and to maintain the relationship with their old friends. Some college students also tend to use social media to meet the social needs of making new friends. The results also show that Shanghai college students have a high degree of social loneliness and anxiety, and social media dependence has a significant positive predictive effect on college students' social loneliness and anxiety: the more serious college students rely on social media, the more social loneliness and anxiety in real-life social interaction will also become more serious. In addition, the more serious college students' dependence on social media is,the more troubles they encounter in real social situations, and the weaker their social skills are.Severe social media dependence can even lead to real-life social disorders for college students.According to the research results,we can draw the conclusion that "group loneliness" is the norm behind deep social networking. Our lives are becoming more and more inseparable from social media. When we pay closer attention to the smallscreen in our hands at all times, our participation in the real world is less.Although social media meets the needs of human self-expression and interpersonal communication, but our ability to observe and understand the world is also greatly weakened. The alienation of technology causes the alienation of people. It has invaded our lives, even our bodies and minds, before we even felt it.Therefore, college students must be alert to the media technology as a double-edged sword, when they experience the rich information resources, convenient social situations, and diversified entertainment methods in this age.
