Hu Shi and Wu Mi are two representative scholars in modern Chinese academic history. They grew up at the turn of the old and the new,and they were both the student study abroad in Boxer Indemnity period.Standing at the intersection of Chinese and Western cultures, they shouldered the historical responsibility of Chinese culture and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. However,Hu Shi and Wu Mi grew up in different family environment, regional culture and learning experience.During their stay in the United States and after their return to the country, they also held different attitudes towards Chinese and Western culture, and influenced the practical activities of their own national cultural renaissance.Based on this, this paper takes Hu Shi's diary and Wu Mi's diary as the main text to study Hu Shi's and Wu Mi's experience of cultural conflict and their basic path of adjusting cultural conflict,so as to provide reference for the current practice of national cultural renaissance of students studying in the United States. In the first part of the thesis, the author makes a comparison between Hu Shi and Wu Mi in terms of their family background, regional culture and education experience,so as to provide a comprehensive investigation on how they adjust their culture respectively.First of all,in terms of family background,Hushi, who lost his father when he was young, developed the characters of forbearance, tolerance and harmony under the strict requirements and full expectations of his mother, and graduallyestablished the life criterion of To become a saint.Different from Hu Shi,Wu Mi,who has a complex family relationship, has developed loneliness, stubbornness and impulsiveness under the doting and pressure of his grandmother. However,in the strong family culture atmosphere,Wu Mi has established an emotional bond with the traditional Chinese culture.Secondly,in terms of regional culture, under the influence of the open and inclusive Huizhou culture,Hu Shi inherited the qualities of hardworking, tolerant and open, and daring to be the first.Wu Mi's in-depth study of Confucian classics, his insistence on introspection and moral cultivation, and his deep love and value for traditional culture all depend on the infiltration of strong practical and practical academic atmosphere in Guanzhong. In addition, although they were also influenced by traditional education for a long time, they also came into contact with new cultural factors from the new education. However, there are some differences between Hu Shi and Wu Mi in their cultural choice and value orientation before their stay in the United States. These differences also indicate the differences in their future cultural choices and moral activities. In the second part of the thesis, the author studies Hu Shi and Wu Mi's experience of cultural conflict during their stay in the United States. The language barrier in study, the differences in educational contents and teaching methods between China and the west,as well as the differences in religion, family, marriage, men and women's communication in social life, make Hu Shi and Wu Mi have a more direct or the same or different feeling and understanding of various cultural conflicts between China and the West.In the third part of the thesis, the cultural psychology of Hu Shi and Wu Mi in the face of cultural conflict is studied, focusing on how they adjust their culture through the choice of school transfer, teachers selection and friends making.Hu Shi transferred from agriculture to literature,Cornell University to Columbia University, followed Dewey's experimentalism and made friends, which gradually made him an incurable optimist.Wu Mi is deeply rooted in pessimism, but because of the choice ofBabbitt and Harvard University,he found a bright light in his hesitation and tangle, and under the guidance and company of famous teachers and friends,he made clear what he wanted in his life.Hu Shi and Wu Mi's activities of changing schools, choosing teachers and making friends greatly influence and reflect their adjustment process in the face of cultural conflicts. The fourth part of the thesis is to investigate Hu Shi and Wu Mi's views on Chinese and Western culture, and to sort out their educational and cultural practice after their return to China. This part also analyzes how their self-confidence,self-esteem and identity to Chinese culture, their cognition and attitude to western culture, and their understanding of the relationship between Chinese and Western culture affect their participation in the practice of national cultural rejuvenation.Hu Shi advocated reassessment of all values and input of theories to rebuild new civilization, while Wu Mi advocated Carry forward the quintessence of Chinese culture, rational input and integration of Chinese and Western cultures. On this basis, they have completed a series of practical exploration activities in higher education, social education, discipline construction, etc.,in order to practice their ideals and promote the rejuvenation of national culture. At last, the thesis summarizes the characteristics of Hu Shi and Wu Mi as the modern Chinese students studying in the United States for the rejuvenation of Chinese culture. It can provide reference for the current students studying in the United States to stick to the position of Chinese culture in the new round of cultural dialogue and conflict between China and the west, shape the image of Chinese culture and the country, and speed up the process of national cultural rejuvenation.
