Objective To investigate the relationship between physical activity levels and physical literacy among adolescent, and clarify the positive effect of physical activity level on the development of adolescents' physical and mental health, with a view to improving the youth's understanding of the value and significance of physical activity,to provide empirical model that promote their independent participation in physical activity, and promoting the physical and mental health growth of young people. Methods Two hundred and seventy-seven adolescents aged between 13 and 17(141 male and 136 female),took part in this study. An International Physical Activity Questionnaire-short form(IPAQ-SF)and Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument(PPLI)were distributed to the participants at their schools.Pearson correlation coefficient was used to calculate the relationship between perceived physical literacy and physical activity level.A general linear model was used to analyze the association between adolescents' perceived physical literacy and physical activity levels. Results The correlation between perceived PL and PA levels was low but significant(r=0.198,P<0.01),as was the correlation between the attributes of PL and levels of general physical activity and high-intensity physical activity(r=0.165-0.276,P<0.01).Perceived physical literacy explained 39%(P<0.01)of the total physical activity levels. Conclusions The results support the importance of incorporating physical literacy education in youth physical education, especially knowledge and understanding. The improving physical literacy plays a great role in promoting adolescents to participate in physical activities. The increase of physical activity level also improves adolescents' self-awareness and self-confidence,which is very important for teenagers.
