Solution-Focused Brief Therapy(SFBT)is a positive,short-term and future-oriented psychotherapy mode, emphasizing the importance of constructing solutions. It believes that the client is the expert of himself. The skills, advantages and resources used by the client in exceptional situations can be reused and help him achieve his goals. At the same time, this treatment mode attaches importance to every small change and firmly believes that small changes will cause big changes. Its' core technology includes three kinds of structures and five kinds of questions. The three kinds of structures include target architecture, exception architecture and small step architecture. The five kinds of questions are outcome question, exception question, miracle question, scaling question and coping question. With the help of numbers and virtual measuring scales, the scaling question helps the client sort out the“exceptional” resources, determine the future goal and start a small step.It has a wide range of applications and can be used at almost any time during talks. It can produce good effects when used in combination with other question techniques. At the same time,it also has a unique healing function, which can make the talks develop towards a constructive direction, and can also be applied to other treatment mode-based talk. Therefore, the scaling question has been favored by more and more social workers. This paper uses the methods of literature analysis and case study, combined with the research results of Solution Focused Brief Therapy,to analyze the application function of scaling question in different case situations. From the purpose, process and effect analysis of using scaling question, this paper tests the functions of scaling question in focusing on the key points of conversation, exerting the subjective initiative of the client, shifting the focus of attention, clarifying the feelings of the involuntary client, and enhancing the self-confidence of the client. At the same time, the “Triangulation verification method” is used to verify the effectiveness of the scaling question in the Chinese cultural background through the three aspects of the social worker's expected goal, the compliance of the client and the target effect of the case.Based on the social work practice cases combining Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, this paper summarizes and reflects on the common application errors of scaling question and finds out the causes of common errors and proposes solutions. In addition, this paper will further explore the use of scaling question based on practical experience.First of all, social workers use some positive words to describe the meaning of the two levels of scaling question, guiding the client to think more about the positive content.Secondly, this paper puts forward the coping method when the client gives a zero point answer. The main method is to shift the client's focus of the case and guide it to state its advantages.Thirdly, this paper clearly clarifies that social workers and the client should show “what signs”instead of “what do you need to do” when making a small walk, and emphasize that the social worker should fully respect the client's determination of the meaning of the difference, social workers continue to subdivide the immediate action into more detailed steps;Fourth, this paper proposes that social works share a specific measuring rule with the client can make the conversation process more effective; Finally,it discusses the important role of scaling question on social work services in the context of Chinese cultural background.
