Algebra is an important content in middle school mathematics. Many studies have shown that students' algebraic reasoning ability is very important for the learning of algebra. After combing the relevant literature, the author found that there are few tools specifically for measuring students' algebraic reasoning ability.Based on this, the author hopes to develop a tool that is suitable for evaluating algebraic reasoning ability, and use this tool to evaluate the algebraic reasoning ability of the junior one students. In this study, the first step is to establish an evaluation framework for algebraic reasoning ability,to examine students' algebraic reasoning ability from generalization, representation, calculation, and argumentation. On this basis, select test questions, design evaluation standards, and form evaluation tools. This study intends to answer the following two questions.First, how do the students perform in generalization, representation, calculation, and argumentation of algebraic reasoning ability? Second,is there significant difference in algebraic reasoning ability of different groups? This study mainly compares the difference between boys and girls and the difference between students with different levels of mathematics.Through analysis,we draw some conclusions.First, students are good at solving algebraic reasoning problems in the context of familiar knowledge.Second,in terms of generalization of algebraic reasoning ability: most students are good at discovering quantitative relationships, but it is difficult for them to describe quantitative relationships in words.Third,in terms of representation of algebraic reasoning ability: students perform well in transforming representations, but have difficulty in generating representations.Fourth,in terms of calculation of algebraic reasoning ability: most students are able to use equations and other algebraic methods to calculate proficiently;but they all lack the awareness of testing.Fifth,in terms argumentation of algebraic reasoning ability: most students can provide reasonable arguments, but some students' proofs lack logic.Sixth, although boys' score is higher than girls' in the algebraic reasoning ability test, there is no significant difference between boys and girls in algebraic reasoning ability.Seventh, there is significant difference in algebraic reasoning ability of students with different math performance levels.Based on the above conclusions, the author proposes the following teaching suggestions.First, provide students with the opportunity to describe quantitative relationships in language in order to help students improve their algebraic reasoning ability.Second, pay attention to the teaching of representation in order to help students master multiple representation methods.Third, cultivate students' awareness of testing and help students develop good habits.Fourth, pay attention to students who have difficulty in developing algebraic reasoning ability.
