The information technology society has higher and higher requirements for students' innovation and ability to adapt to social development. As a new ability requirement, computational thinking has achieved significant results in theoretical research. However, there are few studies on the use of theory combined with practice to cultivate students' computational thinking ability. Therefore, this article combines the needs of the STEAM Innovation Education Workshop project in schools with the learning situation of children in the western region, the "item-based teaching model based on the STEAM teaching concept" was putted fordward by using the STEAM teaching concept of "telling" science,"learning" technology,"doing" engineering,"seeking" art,and "researching" mathematics and project-based learning method. The specific method is as follows: We have designed a series of project-based teaching cases with the smart car as a research platform;taking the STEAM teaching concept as the core and the teaching case as the lead, and explored the education and teaching mode suitable for young people and investigates the students' computational thinking ability Improve the situation in the practice. The main research work of this paper is as follows:(1)By consulting the relevant literature and materials,we sorted out the basic theoretical knowledge of cultivating students' computational thinking ability.A smart car was designed and built by ourself to achieve basic functions, such as obstacle avoidance and patrol. We also analyzed the relationship between Mind + software, computational thinking,By combining the STEAM teaching theory and the characteristics of project-based learning,we constructed "Cultivation model of computational thinking ability based on STEAM teaching theory".(2)With the goal of cultivating the ability of computational thinking, guided by the STEAM teaching concept,a teaching case based on smart cars is designed. The teaching case contains a total of ten lessons, and three lessons are selected in the article to detail the specific case features such as design ideas, teaching goals, and difficult and difficult issues.Based on teaching practice,a questionnaire survey is conducted. The questionnaire survey includes a survey of current status of computational thinking and a post-investigation on the development of computational thinking.(3)We implemented teaching practice activities based on the teaching model. We selected the teaching object and teaching practice site, applied the new model to teaching practice.By taking on-site questions and answers,self-assessment,mutual assessmen between teachers and students, computational thinking level evaluation, and graphical programming level,we evaluated the teaching object and draw a conclusion. In the early stage of teaching practice,we organized students to fill out a survey and research form on the status of computational thinking. In the middle of teaching practice,we recorded the learning process of teaching objects. In the later stage of teaching practice,we evaluated and summarized the teaching achievements and invited teaching subjects to fill out a post-calculation thinking questionnaire. Finally, from the evaluation results and the scores from the questionnaires,We concluded that the teaching model is feasible for cultivating students' computational thinking skills.Combining the STEAM education concept with the project-based learning method, after analyzing the teaching practice data,We have concluded that students' overall learning interest is high, their hands-on ability is enhanced, and their problem-solving ideas are clear.Compared with the practice, students have great progress on understanding and applying the meaning of computational thinking, which has proved that the teaching of "Computational Thinking Ability Training Mode Based on STEAM Teaching Concept" is helpful to improve students' thinking ability.
