| With the constant improvement of globalization and the advancement of urbanization,the competition among the cities has been stiff increasingly.While the optimization of the city image could make the city hold the advantages in the competition.By spreading the image of the city,showing the charm of the city could expand consensus,promote cooperation,and get more resources.In modern society,"Loudness is actually necessarily persuasive." Fine and good city image needs to be set up by successful communication.In the era of the Internet covering of people's life,mass media construct the symbol environment which is the first way of people recognizing and understanding the outside world.How the cities be reported and commented through the news media,will direct impact on people's perception of those cities.There is no doubt that the media with strong communication advantages are very important forces for the spread and establishment of city image,among which the local English newspaper as a particular strength,is also worthy of our attention.Local English newspapers in China has enjoyed a rapid development in recent years.They not only serviced about foreigners,but also took the responsibility of spreading the localization or the culture and development.In the face of the new situation in foreign communication,the advantages of cross-cultural communication of local English newspaper have been stood out increasingly and cumulatively.Usually the local English newspaper has a clear purpose and conductivity,based on the local angle that audience should be placed in the first,and its language made a great plus.This paper takes the Changjiang Weekly as an example which is the only local English newspaper in central China,trying to analyze the construction of Wuhan city image from the perspective of cross-cultural communication.Through a systematic,quantitative and descriptive research,based on about one-year newspaper contents of Changjiang Weekly from November 2013 to October 2014,during which it has been revised one time,the author gives conclusions on the communication strategy and tendency of the newspaper from five aspects:report quantity,report type,layout of the content,report form,and report discourse,as well as indicates that how Wuhan city image be cross-cultural constructed by the Chahngjiang Weekly and what the traits and characteristics are.As a whole,the Chngjiang Weekly's reports on Wuhan is rich and deep,also with large communication capacity,emphasizing strong serviceability,and weakening publicity,appeared relaxed and lively style,etc.The characteristics of the Changjiang Weekly's cross-cultural construction of Wuhan city image are reflected in four aspects:highlight humanistic care;pay attention to visual communication;multiple issues set;emphasis on the internationalization of local stories.In addition,through the questionnaire and interviews,the author also gives some complements.Finally,through the analysis of the strategy of across-cultural construction of the city image,combing with the own internship experience in the Changjiang Weekly,the author puts forward some feasible suggestions in view of the local English newspaper in China,hoping that it is helpful to the Changjiang Weekly and other local English newspapers if they need international communication. |
