The Shinsen jikyō(新撰字镜)was completed by the Japanese Buddhist monk Shōjū(昌住)during the Shōtai(昌泰)era(898-901 CE).This book consists of 12 volumes,about20,000 words,divided into 160 according to the radicals.Some of the entries are accompanied by the wakun(和训)of the manyōgana(万叶假名).It is the earliest existing Chinese Japanese dictionary.This book mainly cites the contents of“Xuan Ying Yin Yi(玄应音义)”,“Yu Pian(玉篇)”and“Qie Yun(切韵)”,which has great significance to the study of Chinese language history.This article is divided into four parts:“Overview of the Shinsen jikyō”,“Introduction and guide the collation of the Shinsen jikyō”,“An interpretation of the special case of the Shinsen jikyō”and“Collation of the Shinsen jikyō”.The first part mainly introduces the basic information,version of the Shinsen jikyōand the research summary.The second part introduces the ancient dictionaries involved in the collation,methods of the collation of the Shinsen jikyō.The third part is the induction of the special case of its fallacy.The last part is collation of the Shinsen jikyōtake.Collation takes Tianzhiben(天治本)as the master copy,refer to other editions,related dictionaries and classical books in large numbers,and collate the text of Tianzhiben one by one,and write the collations.Then select tens of collations with more research value as the collation part of this article.
