The Economist's Report On The Sino-US Trade War Framework Research

On March 22,2018,Trump signed a memorandum against China,announcing large-scale tariffs on commodities which imported from China,and restricting Chinese companies' acquisitions and mergers in the United States.A new round of Sino-US trade dispute has begun.As a traditional elite medium that maintains trade liberalism,"The Economist" pays close attention to the "China-US Trade War" incident.This study takes the "Trade disputes between China and the United States" event as the research object and uses the "Economist" as the sample source to frame the media's coverage of the "China-US Trade War" event from March 2018 to June 2019.The purpose of the research is to explain the cultural context and the discourse strategy behind its reporting framework,thus to propose a strategy for responding to the "other"discourse strategy and enhancing China's international image in external communication;The discourse ability of the international audience provides a realistic basis and operational experience for enhancing the right to speak of our country.This research is based on Gamson's "interpretation package" theory which uses quantitative and qualitative research methods.This article is divided into five parts.The introduction part is to sort out the domestic and foreign literature,focusing on the analysis of the research origin and significance of the research,which is aim to explain the research ideas and methods.The first chapter is a low-level analysis of the report that analyzes and interprets the sample from the number,genre,theme,source,and standpoint.The second chapter is a high-level frame analysis of the report,using Gamson's"interpretation package" concept as a specific research approach,and the frame is summarized as the "destruction of free trade system" frame,"zero-sum game" frame,"global economic shock" There are five types of frameworks:"China threat" framework and "technical warfare" framework.The third chapter clarifies the reasons and characteristics of the framework.The fourth chapter is based on the previous analysis,clarifying the construction of the "other" discourse in the framework of reporting to China.It also proposes the path of constructing the Chinese image under the construction of the Western "other" discourse and come up with a critical perspective on "Western discourse " and also take the three-party discourse in cross-cultural discourse to construct a possible suggestion for the multi-dimensional dissemination of Chinese discourse "into account.
