This paper mainly explores the impact of the free trade of intermediate goods on R&D investment.Based on tariff data,2000-2006 China's industrial enterprises and the customs data,we used Fixed effect model,Instrumental variable method,PSM and PSM+DID to verify the hypothesis. The results show that trade liberalization of intermediate goods continues to promote promotion of enterprise R&D investment effectively. After the robustness test, the above conclusion is still valid.Subsequently,we estimate the mediating effect by step-by-step test and explore the mechanism of trade liberalization of intermediate goods affecting corporate R&D investment. The results show that trade liberalization of intermediate goods promotes R&D by increasing the scale of corporate exports, eroding corporate profits, and intensifying market competition, driving industrial transformation and upgrading. The results of this paper can provide a reference for China's current trade liberalization policy.
