MIS&Corporate Performance:A Practical Example Under The National Rural Support Program(NRSP) Pakistan

In this study,the two approaches of data collection i.e.Paper and Pen based,and Tablet based(IT)have been considered and evaluated in terms of convenience,time,reliability,cost and for the reuse of data.Furthermore,this study incorporates SWOT examination on the Information System Strategy of the base company.Information gathering using pen and paper has been a very old and very famous technique for data collection,but it has proven to be less reliable and costly in the era of technology.A newly setup District office of an organization with a very large geographical outreach has been chosen for the sake of evaluation and research.Open Data Kit(ODK)method has been used for the sake of comparison by the base company to help analysis go forward.Open Data Kit(ODK)is an instrument for changing over paper-based survey information,which is pen and paper-based data into reusable,reliable and accurate computerized data.It helps empower gathering of information and data which was already being gathered utilizing pen and paper with android gadgets and afterward accommodation of this information to a remote server.It doesn't require any sort of availability,neither Web nor portable network at the point of information gathering.To determine the suitability of applying MIS to NRSP,researcher used SWOT analysis as criterion to test the effects upon NRSP four categories(strengths,weaknesses,opportunities and threats).To know the major steps of applying the MIS researcher reviewed the NRSP documents.And to determine the SWOT categories factors and the effects of applying MIS on them researcher used structured interview sessions.The main results were applying MIS had positive impact on NRSP in all four categories.Therefore,applying MIS had an added value to NRSP operations.Researcher recommended that NRSP management should take advantage of this significantly change to set a suitable culture that support the new trends in NRSP.Moreover,use the results of this analysis study to start building a suitable strategy,based on customer-internal and external ones-orientation.And harnessing information and communication technology to generate added value to all units and procedures in seek of continuous progress.The research was undertaken on a newly setup strategic business unit of the base company in a remote area and the results were remarkable.The quantitative research showed that data collection using tablet-based approach has reduced the time by 33%,cost by 34.74%and improves the data quality up to 55.92%compared to pen and paper-based approach.This reduction in cost and time and improvement in quality with the use of tablets for data collection could make it viable for both small and large-scale future projects.Also,technology is making it easier to do surveys,but unexpected issues specific to the technology may yet arise during implementation or analysis.
