Infrastructure is an important driving force for social development. It can promote social and economic growth and improve people's living standards. The relationship between infrastructure and economic development has always been an important research topic in economics.Historical data show that infrastructure plays an increasingly important role in economic development.Understanding the laws of infrastructure and regional economic development is conducive for the government to formulate the long-term plan of supporting the regional development in infrastructure investment. And will achieve coordinated development of all regions. This paper has two parts: theoretical research and empirical research. In terms of theoretical research,we first analysis of infrastructure as a kind of social capital is the precondition of economic growth. Then, point out that the infrastructure provides public services for residents' life and social development from the micro and macro aspects.Through the analysis of domestic and foreign literatures,it is concluded that the infrastructure can participate in economic production activities as social capital, reduce production costs and transaction costs, and then promote economic growth. It can also promote economic growth by improving total factor productivity, labor efficiency and human capital. The infrastructure is mostly public facilities, can play an external role.It can enhance the spatial diffusion effect of social production activities, closer geographical and economic links between regions. It can also promote factors flow reasonably in each interval, thus promoting industrial specialization, promoting division of labor, agglomerating economy. At the same time, infrastructure will have a spatial effect on economic growth. It is mainly divided into competition effect and spillover effect. In the empirical research section, this paper uses the provincial panel data from 2004 to 2014.The economic growth effect of infrastructure is analyzed from several angles.Firstly, the regional differences in infrastructure for economic growth are analyzed from the perspective of total factor productivity. The DEA-Malmquist index model was used to calculate the total factor productivity of various provinces and cities in China from 2004 to 2014.And analysis the impact of transport, energy and communications infrastructure on total factor productivity across the country and in sub-regions.We conclude that: infrastructure investment has lagged effect.Total factor productivity is generally higher in the eastern region, the central and western regions are lower, and regional difference is obvious. Then introduce the location factors,by constructing the adjacency space weight matrix, the spatial econometric model is used to show that the development of infrastructure has a spatial spillover effect on local economic growth.Among them, transportation infrastructure has less effect on economic growth than energy and communication infrastructure.Of the three major infrastructures, the energy infrastructure is the most efficient, and transportation infrastructure is small.Consider regional differences, use spatial regression among east, middle and west respectively. We concluded that: there is space competition effect in transportation facilities. The energy infrastructure has spill-over effects in the eastern and central regions. And there is space competition effect in western region. The communication infrastructure has spatial spillover effect in the eastern and western regions, and there is spatial competition effect in the middle area.
