Chinese outward foreign direct investment(COFDI)has been increasing at an unprecedented rate.Widespread Chinese outward FDI(COFDI)geographical distribution comprises 156 countries, accounting for COFDI flows with a total value of USD $183.1 billion in 2016.The development of the Chinese economy has resulted in a shift of focus in COFDI: from acquiring material resources to technologically oriented investment aimed at acquiring technology and brands. The often over-proportional amount of attention that COFDI is habitually receiving demands a close examination. This thesis focuses on the perception of Chinese outward foreign direct investment(COFDI)in Germany. This case is fascinating to investigate due to the amount of attention COFDI has received, both in the media and politically,in order to determine if concerns leveled at those acquisitions are warranted and the political response appropriate. We find that heuristics have a great influence on the portrayal and perception, which greatly influences the discussion.
