In recent years, under the background of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation”,many startup companies have mushroomed in the market, but only a tiny fraction survived to achieve commercial success. It is an important research topic for the organizations and entrepreneurship theory that how start-up companies should be able to obtain competitive advantage and achieve success.Organizational routine is the core concept of organizational behavior in organizational theory. It largely determines the behavior of the organization and its members. The specific behavior of the organization determines the specific performance of the organization. Therefore,if an entrepreneurial organization wants to achieve good results,it must inevitably adopt appropriate behaviors, and it will inevitably have a set of organizational routines adapted to the environment.Studying how organizational routines are evolved has important implications for helping startups get performance.Dynamic capability is an important concept used by organizational theory to explain how organizations obtain competitive advantage.A great deal of literature has revealed the importance of organizational evolution.Based on the existing literature results, this thesis divides the dynamic capabilities into organizational flexibility, learning ability, changeability, and market orientation.Based on the method of cellular automata, the evolution process of organizational routines under the influence of dynamic capabilities is studied. From simple to complex the principle of step-by-step modeling, first consider the organizational flexibility and learning ability to establish the first model for evolutionary analysis. Then based on the first model, add the dimension of change capability to build a second model for branch. Finally,we add the market-oriented dimension to establish the third model, which in turn programmatically implements the simulation evolution process of the model. From the results of the evolution simulation, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Only when considering the evolutionary model of the two dynamic capabilities dimensions of organizational flexibility and learning ability,it was found that organizational routines tend to converge under the influence of learning. The convergence process is divided into three stages. The first stage quickly converges from highly dispersed to several small groups. In the second stage small group will be relatively stable for a period, converges at a very slow pace, and disappears in the third stage. The more organizationally flexible the convergence becomes, the slower it is.As far as learning ability is concerned, the tendency between imitation learning and trial-and-error learning will affect the duration of each stage. The higher the tendency to imitate learning, the shorter the first stage and the longer the second stage will happen.(2)The second model simulation result after increasing the dimension of change capability finds that organizational change can break the convergence of organizational routines to some extent, but after the change, organizational routines will converge under the effect of learning, and path dependence phenomenon will appear.Change is divided into radical changes and gradual changes. For both types of change, the frequency of change is positively related to the intensity of change.Especially for radical change, the intensity of change is positively correlated with the duration of the second phase of the convergence after the change.(3)Then add the simulation results of the third model of the market-oriented dimension and find that market orientation can guide the evolution of organizational practices, while the effect of guiding effects is the phenomenon of diminishing marginal returns, the effects of guiding effects and environmental changes. The degree of intensity is negatively correlated. This study enriches the evolution theory of organizational routines, establishes a theoretical model for the evolution of organizational routines driven by dynamic capabilities, and provides a basis for further empirical research on the evolution of organizational practices. The limitations of this thesis mainly lie in that only theoretical simulation evolutionary simulations have been performed, and no empirical tests have been conducted on the results. Therefore, the conclusion of this thesis can be used as the basis for future empirical research. At the same time, future research can incorporate more factors that influence the evolution of organizational practices into the model and explore more deeply the evolutionary rules of organizational practices.
