The welding materials made from the core wire and coating of electrode,the composition of titanium dioxide for coating electrode is mainly composed of TiO 2pigment and rutile,and the function of titanium dioxide is slag forming and arc stability,adjusting dynamic viscosity and fluidity of slag.In the present paper,the Panzhihua titanium slag as the raw material.On the basis of Panzhihua titanium slag contains many characteristics,including a large amount of titanium dioxide and a certain amount of SiO2,CaO and MgO components and so on,which all belong to the formula of the electric welding rod.Combined with microwave heating technology have decreased energy consumption,high heating efficiency,overall heating and other advantages,so put forward the technological route of microwave treatment of Panzhihua titanium slag preparation rutile Ti O2 as the raw material for electrode welding production.The modern analysis and testing technology like chemical composition analysis,XRD,SEM-EDAX,Raman,FT-IR,XPS et al.analysis were used to investigated the chemical composition,phase structure,apparent morphology and composition et al.for raw materials and the roasted samples.In the conventional heating and roasting process,the effects of holding time and microwave heating temperature on the S content and C content were systematically studied.It was found that when the roasting temperature was 1100oC and the holding time was 120min,the S content decreased to 0.030%and the C content down to 0.019%,the S and C content in the samples were less than0.030%.XRD and Raman analysis showed that a large amount of rutile TiO2 was formed in the samples after roasting.The effects of holding time and microwave heating temperature on the S content and C content were investigated under microwave heating processing.When the roasting temperature was 1100oC and the holding time was 120min,the S content decreased to 0.030%and the C content down to 0.024%,roasted samples can reach the high quality standard of synthetic rutile.Microwave heating can achieve the process of preparing high-quality synthetic rutile by oxidation roasting of Panzhihua titanium slag under low heating temperature and short holding time.Response surface methodology and central composite design were implemented to optimize the process parameters for preparing rutile Ti O2 used in electrode welding product from Panzhihua titanium slag by microwave irradiation.Through the optimization of response surface model,it is concluded that these optimal conditions of microwave treatment Panzhihua titanium slag were microwave temperature 867oC,holding time of 120min,and microwave power of 500W.The predicted value of the synthetic rutile content in the sample is 74.03%,while the actual value in the experiment is 73.85%.Only small deviations were found between the experimental values and the predicted values.The microwave roasting device was used for the expansion test of Panzhihua titanium slag with the roasting temperature was 950oC,the surface of samples were no longer smooth and the rutile TiO2 appeared.According to the quality analysis of roasted samples,the content of S and C in roasted samples is under 0.030%,which can meet the requirements of the contents of S and C elements in the titanium raw materials for electric welding rod production.Based on abundant titanium resources in Panxi area,microwave heating technology was used to prepare synthetic rutile cleanly which is stable and can be used as raw materials for electric welding rod,and make full use of China's rich titanium resource to achieve localization of welding materials.
