Residence is one of the four basic needs of mankind, and work happily needs to live in peace. There are numerous residences in Chang'an in(Sui)Tang Dynasty. These residences are one of the basic elements that form the urban form of Chang' an.Research on the planning, construction and distribution of Chang'an residences is conducive to a deeper understanding of the urban form of Chang,an.Research on the distribution and use of residence is conducive to understanding the politics and economy of the Sui and Tang Dynasties from the details.Urban planning is the basis of urban layout.Chang'an can be operated in an orderly manner, thanks to the designer's careful planning and layout.Chang'an was planned as four functional areas,of which the residential area was composed of neatly arranged Li Fang in the outer city, which is a basic residential unit.Residents build residences on the homestead granted by the government in Li Fang. The shape of the residences must follow strict rules. In the Sui and Tang Dynasties, there were two ways to build residence:one was built privately and the other was official construction. For privately-owned residences, individuals are responsible for the construction.Officially built dwellings will be supervised by the government for specific construction.According to the statistics of existing data, the number of residential buildings in Daxingcheng is 74,and the number of residential buildings in Chang'an in Tang Dynasty is 1301.After the completion of the construction of the house, the damage will appear over time, and the owner of the house will repair it later. In Chang'an,there were two types of the residences:official and private. The emperor has the right to distribute the official residence, and the distribution targets officials, princes, and princesses. In(Sui)Tang Dynasty did not allocate residences to all officials.Only senior officials or those who had the important meritorious military service were awarded residences. When the prince comes out and the princess gets married, they will get a residence from the emperor.Whether it is an official residence or a private residence, the purpose of building a residence is to provide a place for residents to live.In Chang'an,the main use of residence is officials, emperors and relatives, and ordinary people.Among these users, there are people who,for some reason, convert their homes into buildings for other uses, which has transformed the use of the home.Residences of different natures, different forms, and different scales were distributed in various Li Fang districts in Chang'an.These homes can be divided into official residences, royal family homes, and ordinary people.Different types of residences have different characteristics due to their different identities and political sensitivities.During the Sui and Tang Dynasties,ofFicials with five or more articles were considered as senior officials. After researching the temporal and spatial distribution of senior officials' residences,it was learned that the distribution pattern of senior officials' residences was a dynamic process:first from west to east and then from northeast to southeast. In addition, the residences are always sparsely distributed in the South of City.It can be seen that the land has not been effectively used and the urban planning is not reasonable. This suggests that the healthy development of our city requires reasonable urban planning.
