Nie Yinniang is a female famous for her chivalry since Tang Dynasty in China.This paper aims to analyze the spread and evolution of Nie Tinniang's stories and studies the cultural implication with an attempt to excavate its social functions and value of the times by sorting out the literature in relation to Nie 'Yinniang's stories from Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty.Nie Yinniang 's stories originated from Tang Dynasty.The Legendary of Nie Yinniang is the source of her stories.Nie Yinniang has rich cultural connotations.In terms of chivalry culture,compared with contemporary chivalrous novels,Nie Yinianang's identity changed from an assassin to a knight.In the depiction of martial arts skills,novels of chivalry women in the same era are mostly realistic works while Nie Yinniang tends to be full of fantasy;in Taoism culture,Nie Yinniang is full of such things as Daotist seclusion and immortals' beliefs,the magical way to turn a dunkey-shaped paper into a real donkey,stealth metamorphosis,deity techniques and the forth.The spread of Nie Yinniang's stories reached its downturn in Song and Yuan Dynasty.Only found in the collection of storybooks,essays,and geeks,they got lost,misrepresented,and fragmentedly spread.Those characteristics have something to do with the facts that Song Dynasty putliteraty before warriors and attached importance to cultural education and chivalrous people were respected in both Song and Yuan Dynasty.Nie Yinniang's stories reached its peak in Ming and Qing Dynasty with their appearance in novels,operas,and poetry.At this time,Nie Yinniang's stories evolved themselves in two forms.One is the continuous enrichment and improvement of the stories' content with Black and White Guardian being the very representative.The other is represented by works such as Xian Xia Wu Hua Jian,The Foreign History of the Immortal,Female Kunlunand Yellow River Far.In the latter form,the image of Nie Yinniang began to break away from the original story text and and integrated with the content in the novel as an important figure.As for her chivalrous image,the bloody and cold nature in her gradually faded.Instead,she,acting as a savior,saved people in distress for several times and became the guardian of upright officials and helped them to stifle treacherous officials.As for the Taoist culture,Nie Yinniang's stories were preserved with development in Taoist immortals' beliefs.Nie Yinniang had practiced to become a immortal.Some works had already paid attention to the close connection between mirrors and Taoism with Taoist mirrors and swords combined to arrange marriage for Nie Yingniang.As for chivalry culture,her chivalrous spirit of rescuing people in need kept being represented in the stories.And her patriotic sentiment and affection for people in Ming Dynasty were revealed gradually in Ming and Qing Dynasty.For thousands of years,circulated with unique artistic charms and strong vitality,Nie Yinniang's stories display the cultural value of punishing evil for good with a profound impact on literary creation and the spiritual world for later generations.
