Research On The Application Of Decorative Patterns In The Arts And Crafts Movement In Modern Design

The theory and practice of the Art and Craft Movement play a great role in Britain and also make great contribution to the revolution of design industry in the world.The decorating patterns in the Art and Craft Movement are derived from the nature,and the theme of the decorating patterns mainly are plants and birds with realistic painting,planar coating,and intensive generalizing.With rational structure,clear theme,bright coloration,plentiful details,and romantic style,the decorating patterns of the Art and Craft Movement have great influence on creation of modern decorating patterns.The decorating patterns of the Art and Craft Movement also come from the accumulation of culture and history.We should pay special attention to cultural and artistic value of the decorating patterns of the Art and Craft Movement.In addition,we should inherit the spirit,the significance,the wisdom,and the pattern of the decorating patterns of the Art and Craft Movement,which the great designers of the modern art always favor with esthetic sentiment,esthetic ideal and humanistic spirit.This paper focuses on the historical influence of the decorating patterns in the Art and Craft Movement on modern design.From the ideological origin,and developing process,the author analyzes the characteristic of decorating patterns in Morris art,which should be used in the patterns of clothing design,interior decoration,and graphic design.The author also presents the principle and characteristic with which we can put decorating patterns in the Art and Craft Movement into practice in modern design with esthetic regularity.In the conclusive part of this paper,the author provides us with application scheme of the traditional decorating patterns of the Art and Craft Movement in modern art design.
