The Analysis Of Knowledge In Xunzi's Epistemology

This paper tries to expound the concept of “zhi” in Xunzi's philosophy from the perspective of epistemology.Starting from the source of “zhi”,this paper discusses the relationship between the subject and the object in Xunzi's view and both of them are indispensable.The analysis of the content of “zhi”,it shows that the development of “zhi” is the process of the interaction between the heart and the knowledge.The relationship between the heart and the things is manifested in the repeated activities and the “zhi” is in the discrimination of the heart and the knowledge.Then,starting from the purpose of “zhi”,this paper expounds its role in the formation of ideal personality,and shows that in the process of the formation of rational personality,“zhi” plays a positive role in both moral and epistemological fields.The paper is divided into five parts,which is composed of introduction,three chapters and conclusion.The first part is introduction,it clarifies the significance of Xunzi's “zhi”and introduces the current research situation,main ideas,research contents and methods.Then,connecting with philosophical background and ideological theme in Xunzi's period,we reveal the reason of Xunzi's concept of "zhi".The first chapter starts from the source of "zhi".Through the analysis of the subject and the object illustrate that in Xunzi's view both of them are indispensable.The source of "knowledge" is born in the interaction between the subject and object.In the second chapter,I try to analyse the content of "zhi",it shows that the development of “zhi” is the process of the interaction between the heart and the knowledge.The relationship between the heart and the things is manifested in the repeated activities and the "zhi" is in the discrimination of the heart and the knowledge.The third chapter,from the purpose of "zhi" that is to form an ideal personality,by discussing the role of Xunzi's "zhi" not only in moral theory,but also in the field of epistemology to promote the formation of ideal personality,to see the requirements of Xunzi to the rational personality and to explain the purpose of "zhi".In the concluding part,it emphasizes that the concept of Xunzi's "zhi" has an important academic value for exploring the connotation of Xunzi's philosophical thought,which is of practical significance to guide the formation of correct cognitive ways and to realize the harmony of cultural development.
