"Sandalwood Death",is a novel written by the famous contemporary writer,Mo Yan who devoted himself to it for five years.The novel is developed under the historial background : the Germans built the Jiaoji Railway in Shandong in 1900,Yuan Shikai suppressed the Boxer Movement in Shandong and the Eight-Power Allied Forces captured Beijing,Empress Dowager Tzu-hsi fled in panic.Therefore,the opera "Sandalwood Death" highlights the national elements in the creation.It boldly uses the traditional rap form,"Shandong pianology "and operas to make up a dual narrative structure.It also absorbs the artistic features of the local drama in the melody and harmony.The drama is divided into four acts.It uses "Sandalwood Death" as the main line and it is developed between the grudge in life and death from the fierce and affectionate heroine,Sun Meiniang as well as her biological father,foster father and father-in-law.The song "Serenade is a piece of work performed by the heroine,Meiniang Sun to her foster father Qian Ding in the second act.The external character and inner performance of Meiniang in the play is extremely complex and multi-faceted,however,the singer was not too cautious when the song is sung,but firmly and solemnly grasped the heroine's psychological changes and emotional changes.Therefore,taking "Serenade " as an example,through the creation background and the plot presentation of "Sandalwood Death",this paper analyzes the personality characteristics of Meiniang Sun in this song as well as the singing style and singing skills through the song text analysis.
