Writing is the written expression of the author's thoughts.It is a reflection of students' comprehensive language ability.English writing is a part of the English test for college entrance examinations,and it is also a difficult point both in English teaching and learning.Many problems still exist in students' writing from the present situation of high school English writing.Therefore,according to this situation,choosing the appropriate method to train students effectively becomes an important part of English writing teaching process in high school.Continuation task is a new attempt of the second language teaching aiming to enhance students' reading and writing abilities.This research,guided by the theories of “input hypothesis”,“output hypothesis” and “interaction hypothesis”,based on the previous studies of continuation task and combined with the author's own teaching practice aims to study how continuation task impacts on the quality of high school English writing.The study,adopting the methods of questionnaire,experiment and interview,has made a survey on 2 classes(80 students)in a senior high school in Zaozhuang to investigate the following three questions:(1)What is the effect of continuation task on the content of high school English writing?(2)What is the effect of continuation task on the structure of high school English writing?(3)What is the effect of continuation task on the language of high school English writing?The results of the study indicate that:(1)The continuation task makes the writing content more substantial.It not only improves the students' ability of expression,but also increases students' interest in writing,and it also stimulates students' expression desire.(2)The continuation task enables students to focus on the layout of the writing and the cohesion of the passage,and learn to use conjunctions to make sentences more fluent.(3)The continuation task makes students pay more attention to language and wording.It can help students improve the accuracy of language use and develop good habits for accumulating language knowledge.As a special writing task,the continuation task can stimulate students' desire of expression,improve students' writing confidence and cultivate their good habits of English learning.Therefore,teachers should make full use of the relationship between reading and writing to guide their practice in continuation task so as to improve their writing quality effectively in the future teaching practice.
