"The Outsider" From The Perspective Of The Game

As a French writer,Albert Camus(1913-1960)is one of the important representatives of existential philosophy and literature,and he explores the important concept of Absurd.Camus' s literary works can be regarded as the artistic expression of his philosophical thoughts,and his works reflect the spirit of his works are still have practical significance until today.Camus believes that the novel is the visualization of philosophy,and his work The Stranger is also regarded as the most vivid interpretation of the absurdity.Camus exposes the social reality deeply with concise and powerful brushwork by The Stranger.The Stranger conveys the concern of human nature with profound emotion.There are a lot of phenomenon of plays in The Stranger,and the author analyzes the works according to the theories of play and related philosophical thoughts of Huizinga and other researchers.The protagonist Meursault include interpersonal communication,social norms,legal procedures,and religious ceremonies and so on.The activities which meet the features and the spirit of play belongs to the real plays.In some activities,although there seems to be the appearance of the plays,they are spurious plays for they violate the spirit of the plays in fact.Meursault only participates the real plays and rejects all the spurious plays made up of lies,therefore he becomes the stranger of the society in which he lives.We can divide the plays which Meursault participates in or is linked to him directly into two categories according to the different objects which he is facing,one is that he participates actively in and creates,the other is that he plays with others.The play Meursault's mother participates in is unique and can be put in a separate category.The reason why Meursault participates in the real plays is that he pursues authentic self.He achieves the state of authentic existence in plays.The insiders who are the opposite side of the strangers indulge in the state of “ordinary people” and lives in inauthenticity state.“Ordinary people” avoids and denies the truth while presenting inauthenticity state.The activities in which “Ordinary people” participate are spurious plays in essence for they are just superficially similar to the real plays and lack of the spirit of play.There are not the spirit of play in the court which is infiltrated by secular ideas,in the mechanical work,in the religious ceremonies in which Meursault is forced as well as in the love games with gender inequality.As a participant in the plays,Meursault resists spurious plays when he realizes the absurdity.Avoiding obsessional plays(spurious plays)is his way of resistance.The attitude of Meursault to the plays reveals the connection between absurdity and authenticity.Nobody can live without absurd feeling as well as Meursault.Only when he is in the state of authentic and insists on participating the real plays can he resist the spurious plays in absurdity and take courage and responsibility to face the fracture and alienation between human beings and the world.
