Philip C.C.Huang is a historian with worldwide influence. His research perspective on China is diversified, mainly including three aspects: Chinese political history, rural economic history and legal history. But he is famous for his research on rural economic history. On the one hand, the main reason lies in Philip C.C.Huangi's deep excavation of historical data in rural economic history research and his use of historical theories while absorbing the analytical methods of economics. On the other hand,by suiting and discarding the theories of economics and history,Philip C.C.Huang combined the dialectical discussion of smallholders in the theories of marxism, entitism and formalism to outline the appearance of smallholders in the rural society of China, and gradually improved his theory of "overdensification".However,Philip C.C.Huang did not limit himself to this, but tried to connect China's country and rural society through the "dual structure" of state and society, and tried to discuss the interaction between China's state and society. Therefore,Philip C.C.Huang's research on rural economic history has become an unbypassed classic of Chinese rural studies in domestic and foreign academic circles.
