The "defamiliarization" Method In Contemporary Figurative Painting

In the process of post-modernism,artists combine traditional representational painting with various genres,draw lessons from and absorb the characteristics and manifestations of various visual media,and create more vivid,realistic and contemporary representational paintings by using the technical means of abstractionism,expressionism and pop art on the basis of not divorcing from the category of representational.Using image as the material and blueprint of contemporary representational painting has become a common way,and image processing methods are varied among different artists.Generally speaking,it can be divided into three forms: one is the direct translation of images;the other is the image of irony and parody;and the third is the image of heterogeneity.The common feature of these three methods is to defamiliarize the image.Shklovsky and Brecht have respectively explained the theory of "defamiliarization" in literary and dramatic theories by deepening the form to increase the difficulty of perception and the time spent in understanding."Defamiliarization image" is the embodiment of "defamiliarization" theory in contemporary representational painting creation.There are two forms of image defamiliarization: one is to defamiliarize the image and the painting language itself,the purpose of which is to innovate in the painting itself;the other is to construct obscure narrative and alienated images,the purpose of which is to reflect the social emotions of "strangeness" or "alienation"."Surreal collage" and "Covering and Destruction of Image" are my induction of two typical "defamiliarization" creation modes in contemporary representational painting."Surreal collage" means that different spatial and unrelated images are separated from the original context in a new context,forming a logical chaotic narrative scene,and ambiguous narrative interprets the meaning."Covering and Destruction of Image" strips away the overall status and individual orientation of the character image,making the picture more elusive."Surreal Collage" and "Covering and Destruction of Image" are also the methods and paths for my artistic practice.On the basis of a thorough study of the works of Lars Elling,Neo Rauch,Borremans and other artists as well as their own artistic experience,this paper explores a complete method of artistic creation,which is closely related to the three elements of image selection,theme concept and painting language.This paper reviews and combs the changes of my artistic ideas,the evolution of themes and the growth of language in the process of analyzing a large number of works of art and stating my own practice.
